Magic Cooking

12112007003

I have just undergone another training just last week. The training was actually a product knowledge orientation and basic selling skill training intended for the sales personnel of a couple of distributors in Mega Manila, but it had been agreed that I undergo the product knowledge sessions to further supplement the trainings I had taken weeks before.

This training on product knowledge however was fun. Instead of the usual parade of products in powerpoint presentation, my group tested the products ourselves–through cooking under the supervision of a regional chef.

We were divided into three groups , each of which had to cook a dish of our own. My group had to cook pansit guisado. I had to slice some carrots and mince some garlic, look after the stove, and pass on some tissue here and there to wipe off sauce and spillage [I felt like a nursing aide for a surgeon; ha ha]. The result three platefuls of yummy pansit in as fast as 45 minutes [thanks to my product Maggi Magic Sarap;he he].

I Work Overfed

I am experiencing info overload. It has been a 5-day long company orientation added to the several days spent to my department’s orientation. In fact, I will still undergo another 2-day training prior to my deployment in the field. That excludes a scheduled training Januay next year. The orientation last week included a handful of modules with around 20 lecturers presenting a variety of topics. Our group comprised of a hodge-podge of department personnel from various multinational companies like Unilever, Coca-Cola, Avon, former expats, and ‘inpats’ [the company jargon for foreigners who work with the company. Actually I was the only one coming from a local company--and being part of this very impressive batch has been a recognition.

Good thing about working for a nutrition, health, and wellness company is that it gives high priority to the overall health and wellness of its employees first [grins]. Thate means good food even under tedious training.

The beverage machine just outside our meeting room churned out vats of free Milo and Nescafe. I drank at least 4 cups of Milo per day that training week; that excluded Nescafe Mocha taken on the same day.

Lunch was also free. We had a Php30 lunch budget per day. The budget was low, but since the cafeteria at the basement is already subsidized by the company, I was able to feast on a sumtuous meal complete with soup and dessert at that [I even a 1 peso to spare; haha].

Last Friday, we had a free tour of the ice cream plant in Aurora. With the tour was also our free share of ice cream and popsicles. I felt I was a kid again [another grin]. The group thought I ate a lot, but I think being the only guy an in a group of girls, I had an excuse for the appetite.

The weeks past and what are to come have been bringing info overload. Good thing though that I leave the training full; mind and tummy [another grin].
