My Birthday is now on July 4

I have always known myself to be born on July 3rd. Year on year, My family and friends greet me and celebrate my birthday on the third. My medical documents, school records, and legal papers all indicate my day of birth on July 3rd consequently.

All these records show this fact except for one: My birth certificate. This lone document counters all claims. It indicates my birthday is on the fourth of July, a day amiss my true birthday. Since the birth certificate is a cornerstone of my legal identity, my existence in this nation hinges on this vital document. More so, finding out this matter is a stumbling block to 28-year worth of records and documents bearing my birthday on the third.

I learned this when I was applying for a passport a couple of days ago. The clerk at a photolab called my attention after seeing my birth certificate vis-a-vis my driver’s license. Lo and behold, there it was on the certificate. The pen stroke could not be much clearer: It was July 4.

I was in a momentary daze. Yet, before I drowned in an upsurging disbelief, The clerk told me that a notary public is available and an affidavit can be executed. The affidavit contained all legal jargons of explanations and promises, including my use of July 4 as my birthday thereafter.

And now, I inform everybody that my birthday is now on July 4 already. However, presents are well-accepted either on the July 3rd or 4th.
