Looking for A Filipino Barack

Will there be a Filipino Barack this 2010?

Will there be a Filipino Barack this 2010?

Barack Obama’s historical win was not only a win for himself but also a triumph for his nation griping amidst certain economic dilemma. He has been the epitome of hope for his people, and perhaps the world’s.

It seems his win sent tremors overseas. Peoples of nations afar also stood in awe, stricken by the wonder of his winning an unsurmountable endeavor. Even I am nearly moved to tears whenever I recall how this unlikely dream became a real life achievement.

Obama’s win not only sparked hope for his people, but also ignited hope for nations yearning for their own change a long time. It further intensified their dream of seeing a leader who will give a genuine service that will change the system, much more here in the Philippines.

As the Philippine 2010 polls get nearer and aspirants start to unleash propaganda, I am one of the many Filipinos who, with an ambivalent feeling of awe and convicted envy, ask: Will there be a Filipino Barack this 2010?

Side Splitter Series: Hotel Hillbilly

I have received funny canned messages week-in and week-out. And anecdotes that make me giggle, much more jolt with intensively hard laugh [snort for some even], deserve to be shared. Thus, I am posting Side Splitter Series for people looking for stories that leave a lasting line and split their sides.

A visitor from the boondocks visited Manila and stayed at a posh hotel along Roxas Boulevard. While being ushered upstairs by the roomboy, the Hillbilly suddenly got hysterically offensive.

Hillbilly: [screaming at the roomboy] I know I come from the boondocks but do not ever fool me! Why is my room small, has no bed, and has no window?

Roomboy: [in a calm, condescending reply] Sir, we are still in the elevator.

I am Touched!

I have been browsing through Web pages, jumping from site to site, and checking blogs on Ipod Touch. This gadget has not caught my fancy since it invaded Manila gadget shops months ago and initially had no appeal to me. However, just last week, this thingum-thangum suddenly got oomph and became covetously attractive to me: I am Touched!

The Apple of my eye

The Apple of my eye

I was originally looking for a handy portable scheduler. Akin to the HP Ipaq I had years ago, having a digital assistant to remind me of important meetings, to keep a record of birthdays of family, friends, and clients, to serve as a notebook on my fieldwork, and to organize my contacts, Apple Ipod Touch seems to be the product for me.

However, I have not fully assessed the capability of this gadget. I have browsed several reviews but think these are not enough to give me a balanced assessment of the I-touch. Though the user interface on videos and music seem very much impressive, I still have to see the calendar features of it. Yet, basing on the sleek design and seamless navigation, I drool to take a bite on this Apple.
