And the Creator said, “let there be light.” And the flickering screen was alight.

Oh boy What a Day It Was
Running is not really my favorite pasttime; drinking Milo is. Thus, when my boss invited me to run at the Milo Marathon in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, I thought it wise to put Milo’s olympic energy to the test.
I ran very early morning at Puerto Princesa’s Rizal Avenue. I trotted the route of 5 kilometers, with momentary walks and jogs.
Yet, at the end of this frenzied attempt of beating myself on the road was a rewarding Milo [free Milo drinks were given, but I got taho too]. Milo’s dose of energy got much higher as it began the cheerdance competition for elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels. It was my first time to witness elementary students doing the back-flips with full enjoyment of their teachers [in other schools run by nuns, doing back-flips is a sure move to get oneself to hell] and with supreme bliss of the crowd.
After a long, hectic day of run and cheer, I went back to the hotel still with that olympic energy. Oh boy, what a day it was!

Run to Get the Prize
I ran at the Milo Marathon in Palawan last week. I had not run so much the past months at the gym treadmill, and this thus would be a battery test for me, I thought. Nonetheless, it took my boss easy prodding for me to fly to Puerto Princesa and run.
The event started early. My boss, my colleague, and I met at the lobby of Legend Palawan at five o’ clock in the morning and hailed a tricycle right after going to the plaza where the marathon would start.
When we arrived, a throng of students was swarming the plaza. It turned out that the event will give special prizes to the school that can bring the most number of participants. The schools did not fail to deliver.
I chose to run the 5-kilometer race. It was a Fun Run. I thought it was not a modest move to gallop a 10K race with no serious preparation. It would be a wise decision to stay at a mid-range kilometer length of a race to keep my dignity–just making sure that I finish my race.
The pistol banged. Thus a throng of students drowned the streets, many of those were making a dash not to be trapped in the human tsunami engulfing fast the provincial highway.
Making sure I would not be delayed by a stampedeing crowd, I stayed at the extreme left of the highway. Thus I easily left the crowd in the Fun Run. Others who ran were high school students running abreast, fearing to lose each other in the crowd [these people went there for the fun not for the run]. Others are Philippine marine corps. Others are enthusiasts with gellied bellys bouncing down the highway [they remain enthusiasts still].
My run was a fast steady jog. I kept my cadence. I kept my pace. I did not want to flash my way in the first 250 meters only to falter right after. I made sure that I was in a good running pace, stearing away from students that, by that time, were dragging each other down.
I gradually felt the heat inside. This heat transcended into my warm exhales. My breathing became heavy. speckles of sweat on my forehead spilled profusely on my brows. This heat was momentarily quenched upon handing over of water when I passed by a water booth. Still I run.
At many points of the race, my run became a jog, and my jog became a walk. The pangs of fatigue was excruciating in the gut. I was already tired. I was bathing in sweat. I really slowed down.
Yet as I near the finish line, I ran again. There was an immediate surge of energy I got from somewhere within. I forgot the pain. I did not mind the sweat. And as I end that marathon, I felt a self-assurance: I did not only ran but I ran hard.

- Seiko 5 from PMWF.com
I have bought a Seiko 5 Sports several weeks ago as a treat after getting my sales incentive last month. I have never worn a wrist watch for many years and has used my mobile phone for telling time.
I initially got interested about watches after meeting a sales manager and his agent to discuss getting a condo in Makati. I never fell for the sales talk since I am a sales manager myself but fell head over heals on the watch that this sales manager got. It was a big-faced watch with hard thick metal bracelet. this imposing piece of jewelry eventually lingered in me and drove me to covet.
The covetous feeling grew into lust and lust into obsession. For several months, I drooled at L Time studio and Chronos. I did my rounds at Landmark. Yet, I saw a few that matched my fancy.
One time, I went to Quiapo to get a pair of spectacles done and happened to pass through Isetann Recto. It was a grand shopping mall decades before. Now, it has lost its luster but is still habituated by the hoi polloi. It has a supermarket, several boutiques, and a multi-level department store. At one of its floors sits a watch shop.
This watch shop was the usual store girdled with glass counters in which watches flank. I curiously looked at the displays and to my surprise saw a watch that matched my taste. The shiny stainless steel caught my eyes, and the simple bars on its face was decent and cool.
I went home to Bulacan that weekend but got back the next day to purchase it. I do not usually indulge in buying expensive ornaments but I thought it was time to treat myself into buying this handsome watch for myself. Wearing it gave a sense of fulfilment. I wore it with thrill. I wore it with joyous triumph that after years of restraining myself to indulge and reward myself, I finally did.
I seldom look at the time using my watch and still have the habit of using my mobile phone to tell time. When will I stop it and begin to use my watch? Only time will tell.
