And the Creator said, “let there be light.” And the flickering screen was alight.

Bread and Batter

I went to one of the branches of Danube, a chain of supermarkets and hypermarkets in Jeddah. As I went around, I saw this Baglawa, a platter of various bread and pastry cut into small bite size and arranged in a platter. I initially thought it was an exotic dish of sorts but eventually learned it was bread. Each Baglawa platter was sold at 15% discount, but there were not many people taking it. It looked delicious but was surely expensive.

The freshly baked bread by the oven was a blockbuster though. It was cheap but equally delicious. The bread was baked in the red-bricked oven-furnace at the back wall of the cashier. Here customers have a view of how their orders get baked.

I chose one if its best-sellers, a thin pizza dough sploshed with white cream cheese and thyme paste, pattered with grated cheese. It was placed at the oven using a long wooden food turner. In a few minutes, the pizza-like bread was handed over–hot and delicious.

I gobbled the hot bread in a few minutes and enjoyed the soft goodness of it. As for the Baglawa, I will just buy it next time it slashes 50% off its price.
